Argentina’s Mid-August Holidays Stretch From Aug. 14 to 17

National decree designating Aug. 15 as a tourism day, local ordinances adding Aug. 14 in Quilmes, Bavio plus a bank closure have generated a four-day break.

  • Law 27.399 empowers the government to declare up to three annual non-working tourism days and was used to make Friday, Aug. 15 optional for private employers.

  • The municipal governments of Quilmes and Bartolomé Bavio declared Thursday, Aug. 14, a local holiday for their foundation anniversaries.
  • The Asociación de Bancos Públicos y Privados de la República Argentina announced that banks will suspend in-person services nationwide from Aug. 15 to 17.
  • Employees who work on the Aug. 15 tourism day will receive standard wages, while work on the national holiday, Aug. 17, requires double pay.
