Argentina’s Income Tax Rolls Triple to 1.18 Million in June, Official Report Shows

A lower taxable floor under Ley Bases broadened withholdings, lifting coparticipated revenue.

Overview

  • June 2025 payroll data show 999,507 employees and 183,472 retirees had withholdings, totaling $444,066 million, per the Jefatura de Gabinete.
  • The count rose from 387,328 in June 2024 to 1,182,979 in June 2025, with retirees jumping from 16,412 to 183,472 as those above eight minimum pensions became taxable.
  • The series peaked at 1,225,266 people in January 2025, then eased and stabilized around 1.2 million from March through June.
  • Ley Bases removed the 15–SMVM reference and lowered the minimum non-taxable threshold, applied from July 2024 with retroactive effect to January.
  • Thresholds were updated in mid-2025 (for example, singles from about $2,627,906 gross and married workers with two children from roughly $3,450,000), and the larger take supports the fiscal surplus and boosts provincial finances through coparticipation.
