Argentina’s Formal Jobs Slide Deepens With October’s Sharpest Decline of 2025

Official data point to concentrated losses in labor‑intensive activities, with growth in monotributistas masking rather than replacing destroyed salaried positions.

Overview

  • Total registered contributors fell by 33,134 in October, according to the Secretaría de Trabajo’s SIPA-based report.
  • Private salaried employment dropped by 17,900 to about 6.19 million, the fifth monthly fall in a row and the worst since early 2024.
  • From June through October 2025 the private salaried sector shed roughly 71,000 jobs, driven mainly by industry, commerce, business services and construction, which explain about 84% of the decline.
  • Real wages for formal private workers recorded a second consecutive monthly drop in October, and the Labor Indicators Survey signaled further slippage in November.
  • Since Javier Milei took office, about 176,900 private salaried jobs have been lost, while public employment also contracted by tens of thousands.
