Argentina’s Dollar Rates Slide After U.S. Support Signal and Export Duty Suspension

Traders credited a pause on export duties through October 31 alongside a public U.S. Treasury pledge to support Argentina within its mandate.

Overview

  • Argentina’s wholesale dollar fell $67 (-4.5%) to ARS 1,408, placing the reference rate back below the floating band ceiling.
  • The blue dollar dropped about $45 to ARS 1,475, narrowing its gap with the official rate to roughly 4.8%.
  • Financial dollars retreated around 8%, with MEP at ARS 1,427.5 and CCL at ARS 1,440.9, compressing spreads to near 1–2%.
  • The central bank did not intervene in the MULC, and reported international reserves stood near US$39.118 billion.
  • Argentine ADRs and sovereign bonds rallied, though the blue remains higher for the month, indicating relief rather than a full reversal of prior pressures.
