Argentina’s Digital Driver’s License Takes Effect With Tighter Renewal Rules

ANSV-certified psychophysical results uploaded to the national system now control renewals in 2025.

Overview

  • Under Decree 196/2025, licenses move to a digital format with the physical card optional, and updates are processed virtually through Mi Argentina once medical clearance is recorded.
  • Validity now depends on age: five years for ages 21–65, three years for 65–70, and annual renewal after 70, with first-time drivers subject to stricter early-career conditions.
  • Drivers who fail the mandatory psychophysical exam, those over 70 who skip the required yearly renewal, and novices who commit serious infractions risk losing renewal in 2025.
  • For professional categories in CABA, renewals require DNI, the current or recently expired license (no more than 90 days), psychophysical approval, traffic and criminal records, CUIL, and payment of fees such as $28,750 for renewal and $6,800 for the CENAT.
  • Typical steps include booking an online appointment, submitting documents, completing the psychophysical evaluation, taking theory or practical tests if required, and receiving the credential the same day or within 48 hours.
