Argentina’s Childrearing Cost Index Rises 2.8% in October, Outpacing Inflation

The index combines household outlays with a priced value of care time to guide child-support calculations.

  • INDEC reported a 2.8% month‑to‑month increase in October for the Canasta de Crianza, above the 2.3% inflation rate.
  • Monthly totals by age were $441,173 for under 1 year, $524,597 for ages 1–3, $443,020 for ages 4–5, and $557,173 for ages 6–12.
  • The 6–12 bracket posted the highest monthly cost at $557,173 and rose 1.55% from September.
  • October’s breakdown showed goods and services at $137,485; $177,526; $226,100; and $280,478 by age group, with care costs at $303,687; $347,071; $216,920; and $276,695, respectively.
  • Launched in March 2024, the indicator values unpaid care using domestic work pay scales and serves as a reference for court rulings on child support.
