Overview
- UNLP and CONAE teams completed ATENEA’s assembly in Argentina and transported the satellite to the Kennedy Space Center on September 26 for delivery and integration.
- ATENEA is a 12U CubeSat that will demonstrate high-orbit radiation sensing, GNSS data collection and a long‑range communications link during the mission.
- The spacecraft passed NASA-standard vibration, thermal‑vacuum and electromagnetic compatibility testing at CONAE’s Teófilo Tabanera Space Center in Córdoba.
- Engineers plan to unpack, verify and attach the satellite to Orion, where it will remain powered off until deployment early in the flight before the crewed lunar flyby.
- Artemis II is targeting a February–April 2026 launch window and will carry four astronauts, with ATENEA flying alongside CubeSats from Germany, South Korea and Saudi Arabia.
