Argentina Warns of Spring Heatwave Risk as Mexico Faces Days of Intense Rain

Officials urge precautions with alerts in effect across both countries.

Overview

  • Argentina’s national weather service projects above‑normal temperatures from October to December, with Córdoba showing a 55% probability of exceeding historical values and broad heat risk across central provinces.
  • The SMN maintains yellow alerts for storms in Misiones, Corrientes, Formosa, Chaco, and parts of Santa Fe, Santiago del Estero and Salta, alongside Patagonian wind advisories of 40–60 km/h with gusts over 90 km/h that could escalate to orange level.
  • Mexico’s Tropical Wave 35, interacting with a Gulf surface low and the monsoon, is forecast to deliver intense rainfall in Chiapas and Veracruz and very strong rainfall across Oaxaca, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo, with flood and landslide risk through late week.
  • Despite the wet pattern, Mexico will see warm afternoons with highs of 35–40 °C in areas including Baja California, Sonora, Sinaloa, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas.
  • In Spain, ex‑Gabrielle’s remnants produced torrential rain in the Valencia region and parts of Catalonia with local disruptions, as AEMET and Meteocat now indicate generally improving conditions with only limited showers possible later in the week.
