Argentina Used-Car Sales Set September Record as New Registrations Rise and Output Trails 2024

Steadier prices with better availability are fueling demand, according to dealers.

Overview

  • CCA reported 171,364 used vehicles sold in September, up 5.45% year over year and 2.29% from August, marking the strongest September since records began in 1995.
  • Used transfers reached 1,436,656 in the January–September period, 13.84% above a year earlier, led by interior provinces such as Formosa, Neuquén, Catamarca and Santiago del Estero, with the Volkswagen Gol topping trades at 9,313 units.
  • New-car registrations totaled 55,827 in September, a 27.8% increase from a year earlier, according to Acara, reflecting resilient retail demand.
  • Auto production was 47,108 units in September, rising 5.8% month over month but falling 5% year over year, while exports slipped 17.2% to 26,429 units, ADEFA said.
  • Industry groups see scope to close 2025 above 1.8 million used transfers, though high taxes, expensive financing and currency volatility pose risks to the outlook.
