Argentina Shifts Oct. 12 Holiday to Friday, Creating Oct. 10 Long Weekend

The move uses a new rule that shifts weekend holidays to a nearby weekday to bolster domestic tourism.

Overview

  • Resolución 139/2025, published in the Boletín Oficial, moves the Día del Respeto a la Diversidad Cultural from Sunday, October 12, to Friday, October 10.
  • The new date is a mandatory national feriado, and workers required to work that day are entitled to double pay under Article 181 of Law 20.744.
  • Under the updated criteria, trasladable holidays that fall on Saturday or Sunday can be moved to the preceding Friday or the following Monday to support travel demand.
  • Several municipalities declared local asuetos for Friday, October 3, including Castelli (Chaco), San Salvador (Entre Ríos) and Cipolletti (Río Negro), binding for public offices and optional for private employers.
  • The remaining long weekends in 2025 include October 10–12, November 21–24 with a tourism bridge and the moved Soberanía Nacional holiday, and December 6–8 around the Inmaculada Concepción.
