Argentina Shifts Oct. 12 Holiday to Friday, Creating 3-Day Weekend

A new rule lets the cabinet move weekend holidays to adjacent weekdays to spur tourism, making Oct. 10 a mandatory national feriado with premium pay for those who work.

  • Resolution 139/2025, issued under Decree 614/2025, officially transfers the Oct. 12 observance to Friday, Oct. 10 and classifies that day as a national feriado.
  • Employees required to work on Oct. 10 are entitled to double pay under Argentina’s labor law for national holidays.
  • Regionally, some Buenos Aires municipalities declared Monday, Oct. 13 a local holiday, while in Spain only Andalucía, Aragón, Asturias, Castilla y León and Extremadura shifted the Oct. 12 holiday to Monday, with others such as Murcia keeping it on Sunday.
  • Multiple outlets report the national government has reverted the label for the Oct. 12 observance to “Día de la Raza,” replacing “Día del Respeto a la Diversidad Cultural.”
  • Peru’s official schedule confirms there is no long break from Oct. 4–8; only Wednesday, Oct. 8 (Combate de Angamos) is a national holiday.
