Argentina Sets Nov. 21–24 Long Weekend as Peru Confirms Regional-Only Dates and Mexico Observes Nov. 17

Authorities clarified labor obligations to distinguish national holidays from regional non-working dates.

Overview

  • Argentina formalized a four-day stretch from Friday, Nov. 21, to Monday, Nov. 24, by designating Friday as a tourist non-working day and moving the National Sovereignty Day holiday from Thursday, Nov. 20, to Monday.
  • Friday, Nov. 21, is optional at employers’ discretion and, if worked, is paid as a normal day, while Monday, Nov. 24, is a national holiday with mandatory rest and double pay if worked under Law 20.744.
  • Peru did not declare a nationwide November long weekend; only Moquegua (Tuesday, Nov. 25) and Pasco (Thursday, Nov. 27) have regional non-working days, and the Education Ministry said classes run normally elsewhere.
  • Peru’s next nationwide long weekend runs Saturday–Tuesday, Dec. 6–9, with Dec. 8 (Immaculate Conception) and Dec. 9 (Battle of Ayacucho) as national holidays.
  • Mexico will observe the Revolution Day holiday on Monday, Nov. 17, as a mandatory rest day, and employees who work that day are entitled to extra pay under the Federal Labor Law.
