Argentina Sets Nationwide Debut of Single Paper Ballot for Oct. 26 Legislative Vote

Final guidance details procedures, validity rules, voter assistance.

Overview

  • Voters will receive a ballot signed at the table with an official pen, mark choices in a privacy booth, fold it to show the authority’s signature, deposit it in the urn, and then sign the register.
  • Cardboard U‑shaped booths replace the traditional closed room in most districts, with two booths per table to speed voting, except in Santiago del Estero, Catamarca, La Rioja and Mendoza where concurrent provincial voting keeps the old setup.
  • Votes are null if a foreign object is inserted, more than one option is marked in the same category, a non‑official ballot is used, or a broken ballot is deposited; spoiled ballots can be replaced without the authority viewing the marks.
  • The single sheet lists all options by category nationwide for deputies, while eight districts also elect senators (Buenos Aires City, Chaco, Entre Ríos, Neuquén, Río Negro, Salta, Santiago del Estero, Tierra del Fuego) requiring a mark for each applicable category.
  • Official resources include the National Electoral Chamber’s website, the Vot‑A WhatsApp chatbot, and an online simulator, as the election renews 127 deputy seats and 24 Senate seats.
