Argentina Sets Four-Day Weekend for Nov. 21–24 With Moved Sovereignty Day and Optional Bridge

The decision rests on Article 6 of Law 27.399 to support tourism.

Overview

  • The Nov. 20 Día de la Soberanía Nacional is moved to Monday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 21, is designated non-laborable, producing a four-day break.
  • Employers must grant the Monday holiday or pay double rates to those who work, while Friday attendance depends on each employer or collective agreement.
  • The change applies the rule that holidays falling on Thursday or Friday shift to the following Monday under Article 6 of Law 27.399.
  • The observance commemorates the 1845 Battle of Vuelta de Obligado and the defense led under Juan Manuel de Rosas.
  • Separately, Tuesday, Nov. 18, is a local holiday only in Monte and Ferré for their founding anniversaries.
