Argentina Sets 0% Export Duties on Steel and Aluminum to High‑Tariff Markets Through 2025

The targeted measure seeks to bolster exporters’ access to difficult markets by waiving levies only where foreign import duties reach 45% or higher.

Overview

  • Decree 726/2025 was published on October 8 and signed by President Javier Milei, taking effect the day after publication.
  • The waiver applies exclusively to specified N.C.M. steel and aluminum products, including flat‑rolled steels, alloy steels, seamless tubes, and multiple aluminum forms.
  • Eligibility is limited to destinations that impose ad valorem import tariffs of at least 45%, and the benefit ends if those tariffs drop below that threshold.
  • The suspension remains in force through December 31, 2025, or until a qualifying destination reduces its import duty, whichever occurs first.
  • The Secretaría de Coordinación de Producción must issue implementing rules, and ARCA will compile and update the list of countries that meet the tariff condition.
