Argentina Seizes $600,000 Cache of Garments From Protected Species in Buenos Aires Raid

A months-long federal probe led by Ufima now before Federal Court No. 6 proceeds under tight judicial secrecy.

Overview

  • Federal police raided a PH in Villa Urquiza on Wednesday after sustained work by the PFA and the Brigada de Control Ambiental.
  • Authorities cataloged 227 items made from protected wildlife, including 11 yaguareté and 30 gato montés, plus ocelote, zorro, visón, nutria, serpientes and exotic birds.
  • The PFA’s Department of Environmental Crimes estimated the cache’s black‑market value at about $600,000.
  • Investigators say the pieces appeared listed for sale online and suspect possible Europe–Argentina links, with the property owner reported to be traveling abroad.
  • Ufima, led by prosecutor Ramiro González, opened the case, which is lodged with Federal Criminal and Correctional Court No. 6 under Daniel Rafecas, as forensic verification and tracing efforts continue.
