Argentina Seeks EU Low-Risk Deforestation Status at Anuga 2025

The recategorization would ease future compliance under the EU’s delayed deforestation import rules.

Overview

  • At the Argentine Beef pavilion, IPCVA presented the VISEC system to prove due diligence and traceability for beef sourced from non-deforested land under Regulation 1115.
  • A pilot shipment certified as deforestation-free via VISEC, supplied by ARREBEEF, was showcased and tasted by buyers at the fair.
  • Industry leaders and government officials met with German and broader EU importers as well as EU representatives, who they reported responded favorably to the technical evidence.
  • Argentina formally asked Brussels to move its classification from medium to low risk, and the European Commission has begun reviewing the request.
  • Presenters cited CONICET-supported analyses using EU footprint methodology indicating 87% of Argentina is in a “null risk” category, as 32 exporters worked the 850 m² pavilion to advance sales.
