Argentina Scraps Reference Freight Tariffs, Shifts Grain Truck Rates to Private Negotiation

Officials say prior reference values were inconsistently applied, prompting a pivot to direct price bargaining.

Overview

  • Resolution 48/2025 from the Transport Secretariat was published in the Boletín Oficial with Secretary Luis Octavio Pierrini’s signature, putting the change into force.
  • The measure abrogates Resolution 8/2016 and Joint Resolution 1/2023, ending state-referenced pricing for road freight of cereals, oilseeds and derivatives.
  • Freight prices will now be set through agreements between shippers and carriers without state mediation in tariff setting.
  • Key transport and farm groups, including FADEEAC, FAETyL and the Sociedad Rural Argentina, had already exited the official mesas, while a March 10 Acta Acuerdo set a privately negotiated national tariff schedule.
  • The government ordered notifications to industry chambers and oversight bodies such as CNRT and ARCA, as transport cost data from FADEEAC show a 22.8% increase year to date through August.
