Argentina Repeals 973 Wine Rules to Refocus INV on Bottled-Only Oversight

Officials say focusing on bottled wine from Jan. 1, 2026 will slash bureaucracy.

Overview

  • Resolution 37/2025, published in the Boletín Oficial, restructures the wine regulator and attaches a 92‑page consolidated digest that repeals 973 of 1,207 prior norms.
  • The INV will cease controls on vineyards, harvest, elaboration and transport, limiting enforcement to testing and verifying finished bottled products for safety and authenticity.
  • Traceability certifications such as origin, vintage and varietal become optional for the domestic market, while the INV continues issuing the certifications required for exports.
  • The reform eliminates weekly production affidavits and transit permits, with officials citing 140,000 permits and over 5,000 inspections in 2024 and projecting roughly 5,000 fewer on‑site checks annually.
  • The nationwide regime covers producers, wineries, exporters, importers and authorized labs, takes effect Jan. 1, 2026, and includes updated rules such as labeling requirements and approval of practices like wine dealcoholization.
