Argentina Receives First Six F-16s as Flyover Moved Up to Saturday

The public display was rescheduled because of weather, with foreign pilots flying the jets during the initial transition.

Overview

  • Six modernized F-16s landed at Área Material Río Cuarto and were formally received by Defense Minister Luis Petri on December 5.
  • The government advanced the Buenos Aires low-altitude flyover to Saturday morning, with a published route over Casa Rosada, Avenida de Mayo, 9 de Julio, Aeroparque and Puerto Madero between 8:00 and 8:45.
  • Initial flights will be conducted by foreign crews—primarily Danish—with Argentine pilots serving as copilots while training and transfer continue over the coming months.
  • The delivered aircraft are MLU-standard F-16AM/BM; this first batch includes four two-seat jets and two single-seat fighters.
  • The jets arrived without integrated armament; weapons purchases are included in the package but require U.S. authorization as the 24-aircraft program proceeds in phases.
