Argentina Publishes Transport and Security Plan for Pope León XIV Visit

The government aims to streamline crowd movement by using fixed timetables, airport restriction windows, 24,000 volunteer SUBE cards, targeted station closures, and scheduled transfers.

Overview

  • Officials published the full operational plan on Tuesday, Nov. 3, confirming weekday-level timetables for national buses and trains, extra nocturnal services and specified station and airport restriction windows for the Pope’s visit from Nov. 8–11.
  • The government delivered 24,000 special SUBE cards to the Conferencia Episcopal that let designated volunteers travel free between Nov. 6 and Nov. 13 and handed out participation kits with ID credentials and other items.
  • Organizers will run a coordinated bus transfer to move about 4,000 volunteers from Buenos Aires to Luján on Monday Nov. 9 and Tuesday Nov. 10 to staff the Luján mass on Nov. 11.
  • For security, selected subway stations will close from midday and multiple train stations will block boarding and alighting—notably 3 de Febrero and Lisandro de la Torre from 18:00 on Saturday Nov. 7 until services resume on Thursday Nov. 12—and airlines were notified of time-limited Aeroparque, Córdoba and Ezeiza flight windows.
  • The plan was coordinated across national, city and provincial authorities, the Conferencia Episcopal and transport operators, and includes two mandatory national broadcast chains for major events so the public can follow the ceremonies.
