Overview

  • INDEC is finalizing a revamped Consumer Price Index (CPI) with updated weights, a 2018–2019 base period, and expanded price coverage.
  • The new CPI reduces the weight of goods and food while increasing the emphasis on services such as health, housing, and recreation.
  • Argentina's poverty measurement methodology, based on the Encuesta Permanente de Hogares (EPH) for over 30 years, is being redesigned to reflect modern socio-economic realities.
  • The latest data shows poverty declined to 38.1% in the second half of 2024, down from 41.7% in the same period of 2023, affecting 18 million people.
  • Regional price baskets will be maintained but adjusted to provide more granular, province-level data for improved accuracy.
