Argentina Moves Sovereignty Day to Nov. 24 and Adds Nov. 21 Bridge Day

Workers face different rules on pay and attendance because the holiday is mandatory but the bridge day depends on employer discretion under labor law.

Overview

  • Friday, Nov. 21 is designated a non-working day for tourism and Monday, Nov. 24 is the moved National Sovereignty Day holiday, creating a potential four-day break.
  • Under Law 20,744, work on the national holiday is paid at double rate, while the non-working day is optional for employers and paid as a normal shift if worked.
  • The executive’s annual allowance to set up to three tourism-focused bridge dates is exhausted with November after earlier uses in May and August.
  • Several Buenos Aires municipalities — Olavarría, Presidente Perón and Dennehy (9 de Julio) — declared Tuesday, Nov. 25 a local holiday, extending rest to five days for affected public employees and bank branches.
  • DNU 614/2025 widened the ability to shift holidays to build long weekends, though the reach of the measures varies by sector and essential services may operate as usual.
