Argentina Moves October Holiday to Friday, Creating National Long Weekend on October 10

A new decree lets the Cabinet shift weekend holidays to boost tourism, and the transferred date carries full national-holiday pay rules.

Overview

  • Jefatura de Gabinete formalized the change via Resolution 139/2025, moving the Día del Respeto a la Diversidad Cultural from Sunday, October 12, to Friday, October 10, 2025.
  • The transferred date is a mandatory national holiday, and employees required to work must be paid double under Argentina’s labor law.
  • The reform closes a gap in Law 27.399 by allowing trasladable holidays that fall on Saturday or Sunday to be moved to the nearest Friday or Monday.
  • Local observances continue to vary: Rosario and other municipalities will have a non-working asueto on Tuesday, October 7, and Tolhuin in Tierra del Fuego set a local holiday for Thursday, October 9.
  • November was also reconfigured, with Día de la Soberanía Nacional moved to Monday, November 24, and Friday, November 21 declared a tourism holiday, creating a four-day break.
