Argentina Moves Oct. 12 Holiday to Friday, Creating National Long Weekend

The shift was enacted by Resolution 139/2025 under a new decree that lets weekend transferable holidays move to adjacent weekdays.

Overview

  • Friday, Oct. 10, 2025 is a feriado nacional, and the original Sunday, Oct. 12 observance no longer carries national holiday status.
  • Employees who work on Oct. 10 must be paid double under the Labor Contract Law, with the day otherwise treated as mandatory rest.
  • Monday, Oct. 13 remains a normal working day nationwide despite the three‑day weekend from Friday through Sunday.
  • The government applied Decree 614/2025 to resolve a gap in Law 27.399 and to concentrate long weekends to support domestic tourism.
  • Local governments added jurisdictional asuetos that extend breaks for specific communities, including Oct. 13 (San Manuel–Lobería, Villa RochTordillo, Juan Anchorena/Urquiza–Pergamino, Gahan–Salto), Oct. 15 (Tres de Febrero, Garré–Guaminí, Acevedo–Pergamino), and Oct. 17 (Bragado and Luján).
