• The government activated Plan Güemes in July 2025 through Official Gazette Resolution 830/2025 to establish a unified command across Argentina’s northern border.
• The new command integrates Gendarmería Nacional Argentina with Federal Police, Naval Prefecture, Airport Security Police, Federal Penitentiary Service and Salta provincial forces.
• Control posts in Aguas Blancas, Orán, Tartagal and Profesor Salvador Mazza serve as initial focus areas for enhanced surveillance against narcotics, contraband and unauthorized crossings.
• Since the plan’s rollout, gendarmerie units have intensified anti-narcotic and anti-smuggling patrols with expanded rapid-response deployments.
• Gendarmería maintains its annual recruitment cycle and continues specialized training at its officer and NCO academies to support reinforced border missions.
