Argentina Launches Special Permits for Civilian Semiautomatic Rifles Under New RENAR Rules

The move shifts access to a RENAR-run permit system centered on traceability with sport-only justification.

Overview

  • Resolution 37/2025 was published in the Boletín Oficial, replacing the longstanding practical prohibition with a controlled authorization regime now in force.
  • Legitimate users and authorized shooting entities may seek permits for semiautomatic rifles, carbines, or submachine‑gun–derived weapons with detachable magazines and calibers above .22 LR.
  • Applications must include precise identification of the firearm—type, brand, model, caliber, serial number and CUIM if available—plus a sworn statement with supporting documents and photographs.
  • Applicants must have a G2‑rated secure storage sector, pay a fee equivalent to Tenencia Exprés and the TCCM, show at least five years’ standing as legitimate users, and have no sanctions or pending proceedings at RENAR.
  • Access hinges on verified sporting use through club certification, competition participation, or institutional requests, and RENAR can demand additional proof under its discretionary review; the agency is reinstated under the Security Ministry and prior provisions are annulled.
