Overview

  • Resolution 311/2025 formally establishes the National Plan for Electric Transport Expansion and designates AMBA I, Río Diamante–Charlone–O’Higgins and Puerto MadrynChoele ChoelBahía Blanca as the first concession projects
  • The three transmission works will be funded, built, operated and maintained by private firms under a concession regime that spares the state budget
  • AMBA I is designed to reinforce supply in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area, which accounts for 40% of the country’s electricity demand, and cut reliance on inefficient power sources
  • The new 500 kV corridors from Cuyo and Patagonia will enhance interregional connectivity and enable greater evacuation of renewable and conventional generation
  • These initial projects are part of a 16-work, US$6.6 billion emergency scheme defined by Resolution 715/2025 to eliminate structural bottlenecks and avert mass outages through mid-2026
