Overview

  • The decree authorizes sale of shares in the state-owned companies running Alicurá, El Chocón–Arroyito, Cerros Colorados and Piedra del Águila.
  • Bids will be held nationally and internationally over a 60-day period under guidelines set by the Ministry of Economy.
  • Current operators must submit letters of adherence within five days to continue managing the dams until December 31, 2025 or until the tender concludes.
  • The four dams account for about 10% of Argentina’s electricity generation and provide clean power at costs below thermal plants.
  • Economy Minister Luis Caputo estimates the sale could raise roughly US$500 million to bolster central bank foreign currency reserves.
