Argentina Issues Yellow Weather Alerts as Galicia Eyes Evening Showers

A sharp north–south temperature gradient is fueling instability that could disrupt plans in multiple regions.

Overview

  • Argentina’s meteorological service placed central and southern Buenos Aires, La Pampa, southern Córdoba, San Luis and Mendoza under yellow storm alerts, warning of heavy downpours, frequent lightning, possible hail and gusts near 70 km/h with 15–45 mm of rain locally higher.
  • Yellow alerts for zonda winds cover southern Mendoza, central San Juan and eastern La Rioja, with 30–45 km/h winds and gusts up to 75 km/h expected to bring sudden warming, very low humidity and reduced visibility.
  • A separate yellow wind alert is in effect for southern Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego, where southwesterlies are forecast at 40–60 km/h with gusts that could top 90 km/h.
  • Galician municipal forecasts using AEMET data flag high overnight humidity, morning fog and a rising chance of rain or isolated storms toward the evening and night across towns including Barro, Moaña, Moraña, Mos, Nigrán, Ponteareas, Pontecesures, Salceda de Caselas, Tui and Vilaboa.
  • Officials advise securing loose objects, avoiding outdoor activity during storms, staying clear of trees and power lines, and preparing emergency kits with essentials.
