Argentina Issues Yellow Alerts for Storms and Wind as Galicia Sees Likely Rain and Gusts

Official forecasts highlight thunderstorms with localized hail and strong Patagonian winds in Argentina, while AEMET data signal light but persistent rain across Galician municipalities into Monday.

Overview

  • Argentina’s meteorological service (SMN) kept yellow alerts in effect for thunderstorms across Mendoza, western La Pampa, Río Negro and Neuquén with frequent lightning, possible hail, gusts near 60 km/h and 10–30 mm of rain in short periods.
  • Separate SMN yellow alerts cover strong southwest winds in southern Santa Cruz and the east coast of Tierra del Fuego, where sustained winds of 45–55 km/h could produce gusts exceeding 80 km/h.
  • SMN safety guidance urges residents to avoid outdoor activity during storms, secure loose items, keep drainage clear, stay away from trees and power poles, and prepare an emergency kit.
  • In Galicia, AEMET-based local forecasts show very high afternoon and evening rain probabilities on Nov. 9—often 90–100%—with generally light accumulations of about 0.1–3 mm and occasional thunderstorms.
  • Updated Nov. 10 outlooks indicate continued unsettled weather in towns such as A Estrada, including early-morning downpours of up to roughly 6 l/m², persistent showers through the day and southerly gusts reaching the upper 30s km/h range.
