Argentina Issues Orange Storm Alerts Across North, Heat Warning for Patagonian Highlands

Argentina’s weather service signals high-impact storms in multiple provinces as mountain sectors in Patagonia face extreme heat risk.

Overview

  • The National Meteorological Service (SMN) activated orange storm alerts for Entre Ríos, Santa Fe, Corrientes, Formosa, Chaco, Santiago del Estero, Córdoba, Catamarca and Tucumán.
  • Orange-alert areas may see frequent lightning, occasional hail, gusts exceeding 90 km/h and 60–100 mm of rain in short periods.
  • Yellow alerts extend to remaining sectors of several provinces, including Misiones, Salta, Jujuy and La Rioja, with potential for damaging weather and temporary disruptions.
  • La Rioja is under a time-bound yellow alert from 03:18 to 08:59 with 20–50 mm of rainfall possible, intense electrical activity, hail and wind gusts up to 80 km/h.
  • A separate orange alert warns of extreme heat in cordilleran areas of Chubut, Río Negro and Neuquén, while Buenos Aires stays milder near 21°C with cloudy skies and isolated night showers.
