Argentina Inflation Ticks Up to 2.1% in September, Breaking Four-Month Lull

Currency volatility and regulated tariff and rent increases pushed prices higher, and the official reading now sets the indexation used for upcoming pensions and social benefits.

  • INDEC reported a 2.1% monthly rise in September, putting cumulative inflation at 22.0% in 2025 and 31.8% year over year.
  • Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels and Education led the month with 3.1% gains, while Food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 1.9% and had the largest impact nationally.
  • By category, regulated prices advanced 2.6%, seasonal items 2.2% and core inflation 1.9%, underscoring the role of administered adjustments in the rebound.
  • The result aligned with the BCRA’s REM median forecast of 2.1% and private estimates, and Buenos Aires City’s index registered 2.2% for the month.
  • Early October surveys point to renewed pressure, with EcoGo tracking a 0.9% increase in the first week and projecting roughly 2.6% for October, and the September IPC will be applied to November ANSES payments under Decree 274/2024.
