Argentina Identifies Brazilian Pianist Tenório Jr. Nearly 50 Years After His Disappearance

Fingerprint comparison ordered by a federal court confirmed that an NN buried in Benavídez was the musician.

Overview

  • The EAAF announced the identification after the Cámara Federal accredited the match on August 26, with the family notified through Brazil’s CEMDP.
  • A man with multiple gunshot wounds was found on March 20, 1976 in Don Torcuato and buried without identification in the Benavídez municipal cemetery, whose grave was later reused.
  • Investigators matched fingerprints from a 1976 San Isidro judicial file with Tenório’s prints supplied from Brazil following an Interpol/PFA request.
  • The case is now part of Judge Sebastián Casanello’s Plan Cóndor investigation, which is pursuing what happened between March 18 and 20 and who was responsible.
  • Archival recovery by the Procuraduría de Crímenes Contra la Humanidad and AFIS-supported reviews enabled the breakthrough despite the absence of recoverable remains.
