Argentina Formalizes September Power and Gas Increases With Monthly Updates

The new rules signal a pivot to trimming broad subsidies through formula updates, with relief focused on cold zones.

Overview

  • Regulatory resolutions published in the Boletín Oficial took effect September 1, raising electricity distribution charges by 2.97% for Edenor customers and 2.90% for Edesur customers versus August.
  • ENARGAS approved new Metrogas tariff tables that yield about a 2% average increase, incorporating distribution margin changes, Plan Gas.Ar prices and corrections to earlier inputs.
  • The previous semestral adjustment scheme was replaced by a formula-driven monthly indexation for both electricity and gas to allow continuous updates.
  • Invoices must now clearly itemize wholesale energy costs, transport charges, the FNEE surcharge, MEM costs, CESMC/CENS parameters and the subsidies applied.
  • The socioeconomic segmentation (N1, N2, N3) remains in force, the final impact varies by distributor and region, and the Zona Fría surcharge was lifted to 6.8% to fund cold‑zone discounts.
