Argentina Forensic Team Confirms Identity of Brazilian Pianist Tenório Júnior Missing Since 1976

A federal court recognized a fingerprint match from a 1976 case file, prompting the family to seek a renewed inquiry.

Overview

  • The EAAF identified Francisco Tenório Cerqueira Júnior through fingerprints taken in a 1976 San Isidro case and matched to records obtained from Brazil.
  • On August 26, the Federal Appeals Court in Buenos Aires accredited the identification and directed notification to the family and to Judge Sebastián Casanello.
  • He vanished after leaving the Hotel Normandie on March 18, 1976; two days later a man with gunshot wounds was found in Don Torcuato and buried as an unidentified person in Benavídez.
  • The remains cannot be recovered because the original grave was reused and the bones are presumed to have been moved to a common ossuary.
  • The case is now incorporated into Casanello’s Plan Cóndor investigation, disputed accounts of ESMA detention persist, and the family notified via Brazil’s CEMDP urged a deeper probe.
