Argentina Flags Warmer Oct–Dec and Storm Alerts as Mexico’s Tropical Wave Drives Heavy Rains

Officials urge close attention to alerts as flooding, landslides, strong winds and hazardous seas are possible.

Overview

  • Argentina’s national weather service projects above‑normal temperatures across most of the country from October to December, with Córdoba showing the highest likelihood of extreme warmth at about 55%.
  • The SMN issued yellow alerts for storms across parts of Misiones, Corrientes, Formosa, Chaco, northeast Santa Fe, Santiago del Estero and Salta with 30–70 mm of rain, frequent lightning, possible hail and strong gusts.
  • Separate wind alerts cover Patagonia, where Chubut and Santa Cruz could see westerly gusts exceeding 90 km/h, with stronger conditions expected to persist into Wednesday in some areas.
  • In Mexico, Tropical Wave No. 35 interacting with low pressure and the monsoon trough is producing intense rains in Chiapas and southern Veracruz, very strong rainfall in Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatán, and additional storms from the Pacific northwest to the central states through early October.
  • Conagua/SMN also forecast afternoon heat of 35–40 °C in several northwestern, western and southern states, while two Pacific low‑pressure zones remain under watch with roughly a 50% chance of short‑term tropical development.
