Argentina Finalizes 50,000-Vehicle Tariff-Free EV Import Quota

Overview

  • Resolution 295/2025, published in the Boletín Oficial on July 28, sealed the full annual quota after awarding 27,002 units in the first licitación and 22,998 in the second.
  • Domestic manufacturers secured 6,458 of the second-round allocations, while private importers were granted 16,540 units.
  • All 50,000 electrified vehicles—spanning fully electric, hybrid, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid models—are exempt from Argentina’s 35% extrazona tariff and capped at US$16,000 FOB each.
  • Shipments will arrive progressively: about 13,500 units between July and November 2025, 9,500 in December and 27,000 in January 2026.
  • Over 40,000 of the approved vehicles originate from Chinese brands, led by 5,720 BAIC BJ30 units.
