Argentina Establishes Recovered Assets Office to Centralize Seized Property Management

The Ministry of Justice holds custody of seized assets under a new council’s oversight, backed by a 60-day inventory requirement prior to any AABE-led sales.

Overview

  • Decree 575/2025 centralizes administration and custody of assets seized in national and federal criminal proceedings within the Ministry of Justice.
  • The decree creates the Consejo de Bienes Recuperados to oversee interagency coordination, resource allocation and decisions on recovered assets.
  • AABE is designated as the state’s asset management authority with revenue limited to budget appropriations, donations, interests and fees capped at 5% of an asset’s value.
  • The government must deliver a detailed inventory of all seized and recovered goods within 60 working days and formalize transfer agreements between AABE and the Justice Ministry.
  • Decree 582/2025 institutes the Office of Recovered Assets as the regime’s implementing body under Justice to enhance transparency and traceability.
