Argentina Doubles Winter Electricity Subsidies for Cold-Zone Households Without Gas

The decree raises monthly winter electricity consumption limits, setting 700 kWh for low-income users with 500 kWh for middle-income households in designated cold subzones.

Overview

  • More than one million households in cold regions lacking gas networks will benefit from the temporary subsidy increase from July 1 through August 31.
  • Disposición 2/2025, published July 17 in the Boletín Oficial, formalizes the new caps under the Segmented Tariff Framework.
  • The expanded support applies to subzones IIIa through VI across 12 provinces from Córdoba to Tierra del Fuego.
  • Federal and provincial regulators have been directed to update tariff schedules and handle any required refactoring or billing credits.
  • The winter measure complements IMF-linked multi-year tariff reforms under Decree 370/2025 and is funded by a gas entry surcharge and the FFGAS trust.
