Argentina Declares Local Holidays in July and Locks in August Tourism Break

Local governments scheduled mid-July breaks under municipal and provincial decrees reflecting cultural observances within the legal framework that also established August 15 as a tourism day under Law 27.399.

Overview

  • Municipalities of Río Segundo (Córdoba) and Villa Gobernador Gálvez (Santa Fe) declared Monday, July 14, a non-laborable day for foundation and patron saint celebrations.
  • At least 13 municipalities in Buenos Aires province proclaimed Wednesday, July 16, a non-laborable day for the Virgen del Carmen patronal festivities.
  • Junín and Los Indios will observe Thursday, July 31, as non-laborable local holidays for patron saint and foundation anniversaries, with public administration and the Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires closed and private sector observance optional.
  • Invoking Law 27.399, the national government designated Friday, August 15, as a non-laborable tourism day ahead of the Sunday, August 17, Paso a la Inmortalidad del General José de San Martín holiday to foster domestic travel.
  • Under Labor Contract Law N°20.744, national holidays mandate a day off with double pay if worked while non-laborable days are subject to employer discretion and paid at the standard rate.
