Overview
- The national government confirmed August 15 as a día no laborable con fines turísticos under Law 27.399 and left August 17 fixed as the inamovible holiday for General José de San Martín’s Paso a la Inmortalidad.
- Labor Contract Law 20.744 makes non-working tourism days optional for employers and pays any work at the normal rate, whereas national holidays require mandatory cessation and double pay if worked.
- Banks, public administration at all levels and insurance companies will observe the August 15 break, but private sector firms decide individually whether to grant employees the day off.
- Only workers whose employers give the August 15 off and those not scheduled to work Sundays will enjoy a three-day weekend from August 15 to 17.
- Several Buenos Aires Province municipalities—including Tres Algarrobos, General Rivas, Villa Sauze and Beruti—have declared extra local asuetos on August 18 or 25, creating four-day weekends for residents.
