Argentina Creates National Traceability System and Makes Electronic Veterinary Prescription Mandatory

The measure seeks to tighten sanitary controls, protect export access, and enforce compliance through phased digital registration, real-time reporting, and automatic blocking

Overview

  • The Senasa resolution, published Tuesday, July 21, 2026, formally created the Sistema Integrado de Gestión de Trazabilidad de Productos Veterinarios (Sigtrazavet) and made the Receta Veterinaria Electrónica (RVE) compulsory across Argentina.
  • Sigtrazavet will identify actors by CUIT, georeference storage sites, log product movements from import or manufacture to end use, and link prescriptions electronically to each transaction.
  • The rule sets reporting windows that require import, manufacture, fractioning and packaging to be declared within 96 hours and requires distribution, sales, exports and inter-deposit movements to be reported in real time with receiver confirmation.
  • All data entered into the system will have the force of a sworn declaration, operators must register via ARCA using their CUIT and Clave Fiscal, and the platform will automatically block operations that miss deadlines or where deliveries do not reach declared destinations until Senasa evaluates them.
  • Implementation will be phased: the Dirección Nacional de Sanidad Animal will publish the schedule for which products and active ingredients join Sigtrazavet, and the change will require broad digital onboarding by veterinarians, distributors and producers while aiming to improve animal health monitoring and export compliance.
