Argentina Confirms October Holiday Shift and Four-Day Weekend in November Under New Decree

The new policy empowers the Cabinet Chief to move weekend holidays to create extended breaks that the government says will boost domestic tourism.

Overview

  • Decree 614/2025, signed by President Javier Milei, authorizes transfers of national trasladable holidays that fall on Saturday or Sunday to the prior Friday or following Monday, without altering fixed inamovible dates.
  • The Jefatura de Gabinete, led by Guillermo Francos, is the implementing authority and has begun applying the rule to shape the 2025 calendar.
  • The Día del Respeto a la Diversidad Cultural is moved from Sunday 12 October to Friday 10 October as a national feriado with the usual pay and compensation rules.
  • November will feature a four-day break: Friday 21 November is a day with tourist purpose (optional for private employers), and Monday 24 November is the Día de la Soberanía Nacional moved from 20 November.
  • Officials cite goals of stimulating travel, hospitality and regional commerce, while employers, banks and agencies adjust to the feriado versus non‑working distinctions and provinces and municipalities maintain their own localized asuetos.
