Argentina Confirms Four New H3N2 Subclade K Cases as Total Reaches 15 Across Eight Provinces

Health officials cite travel-linked detections, stressing surveillance, vaccination guidance and hospital readiness.

Overview

  • The Malbrán Institute verified two infections in Córdoba and two in Corrientes, the first detections in those provinces, bringing the national tally to 15.
  • Confirmed cases are now distributed as follows: Buenos Aires Province (3), City of Buenos Aires (2), Neuquén (2), Santa Cruz (2), Córdoba (2), Corrientes (2), Mendoza (1) and Tierra del Fuego (1).
  • Córdoba’s patients had recent travel to Mexico and Spain, Corrientes reported two older women linked to a returning relative, and Córdoba has not declared community transmission while four additional samples await sequencing.
  • Roughly one-third of reported infections were identified during hospitalization, and nine of the first 11 cases lacked influenza vaccination, though vaccination is reported to reduce severe outcomes.
  • National and provincial authorities reiterate prevention measures and priority vaccination, while experts urge advance procurement and wider use of multiplex respiratory testing to support clinical and capacity planning.
