Argentina Authorizes Moving Weekend Holidays to Preserve Long Weekends

The new decree puts the Cabinet Chief’s office in charge of case-by-case transfers to support tourism.

Overview

  • Decree 614/2025, signed by President Javier Milei and Cabinet Chief Guillermo Francos, took immediate effect upon publication in the Boletín Oficial.
  • The measure allows trasladable national holidays that fall on Saturday or Sunday to shift to the prior Friday or the following Monday by decision of the Jefatura de Gabinete.
  • The government says the change closes a gap in Law 27.399 and aims to provide predictable long weekends for travelers and local economies.
  • Tourism secretary Daniel Scioli said the Sunday 12 October holiday will be observed on Monday 13, pending the formal resolution by the Jefatura.
  • The remaining 2025 calendar includes a tourism non-working day on Friday 21 November, the Sovereignty Day holiday on Monday 24 November, and inamovible holidays on 8 and 25 December.
