Argentina Authorizes Moving Weekend Holidays as Oct. 12 Transfer Awaits Final Ruling

The decree closes a gap in the holiday law to support tourism by letting the cabinet shift weekend trasladables, but the first test case has not been uniformly set.

Overview

  • Decreto 614/2025 was published in the Boletín Oficial and took immediate effect with the signatures of President Javier Milei and Chief of Cabinet Guillermo Francos.
  • The Jefatura de Gabinete is the authority of application and may move eligible holidays to the preceding Friday or following Monday on a case‑by‑case basis.
  • The rule applies only to feriados trasladables and does not change inamovibles, which remain fixed on their original dates.
  • Conflicting reports persist over the Día del Respeto a la Diversidad Cultural: Daniel Scioli said it would move to Monday 13 October, while other outlets cite an official resolution shifting it to Friday 10.
  • The 12 October holiday is the only remaining weekend trasladable in 2025, and a definitive, clearly communicated act from the Jefatura is still required for planning by the tourism sector and employers.
