Argentina Approves National Plan for Autism Care

It requires immediate federal rollout to standardize early detection, treatment, monitoring plus care continuity using existing programs without new budget allocations.

Overview

  • The Ministry of Health formalized the Plan Nacional para el Trastorno del Espectro Autista by publishing Resolution 1115/2026 in the Boletín Oficial on Monday, creating a federal framework for autism care.
  • Responsibility for implementation and follow‑up falls to the Dirección Nacional de Abordaje Integral de Salud Mental, which will activate the plan’s measures at once.
  • The strategy is built around six work axes —promotion and prevention, workforce training, family support, research and information systems, intersectoral coordination, and a national epidemiological diagnosis— each with performance, process and outcome indicators for monitoring.
  • The plan requires using existing programs and resources and does not allocate new budget lines, meaning its reach will depend on coordination with provincial and municipal authorities and retooling current services and teams.
  • The measure rests on earlier laws and technical guides such as Law 27.043 and the 2019 consensus on diagnosis and treatment, and it aims to produce national data to guide future policy and improve access to evidence‑based early interventions for people with TEA and their families.
