Argentina and Peru Issue Yellow Alerts for Storms, Coastal Winds and Incoming Friaje

Officials launch repairs, detours, safety guidance after fresh wind and storm warnings.

Overview

  • Argentina’s national weather service warned of strong thunderstorms across multiple provinces, with heavy rain, frequent lightning, hail and wind gusts that could reach 90 km/h.
  • Southern Argentine areas, including Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego, face yellow wind alerts with west winds of 50–60 km/h and peak gusts near 90 km/h during Wednesday.
  • Peru’s Senamhi put nine coastal regions under a yellow notice from 11 to 13 November for increased winds around 32–35 km/h and reduced visibility from blowing dust and sand.
  • Senamhi forecast the year’s 27th friaje for the Peruvian Amazon from 14 to 16 November, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, gusts up to 40 km/h and a marked temperature drop.
  • In Cajamarca, a surge of the Callayuc river washed out a section of the Cutervo–Chiple road; Indeci and the road operator are coordinating a provisional detour with rehabilitation expected to take about a week.
