Argentina and Peru Formalize Year-End Public-Sector Days Off Ahead of Christmas and New Year

Both governments set limited-scope leave to ease travel that keeps essential services operating under minimum staffing.

Overview

  • Argentina’s Decree 883/2025 grants administrative leave to National Public Administration staff on December 24 and 31, now published in the Boletín Oficial.
  • The measure in Argentina excludes banks and financial entities and does not automatically cover provincial, municipal, or private-sector workers.
  • Agencies in Argentina must arrange minimum staffing so essential services such as health, security, and emergencies continue during the leave.
  • Peru’s Supreme Decree 042-2025-PCM designates Friday, December 26, 2025 and Friday, January 2, 2026 as compensable non-working days for the public sector.
  • Peru also published a 2026 calendar with 16 national holidays, and labor rules cited in coverage note triple pay if staff work on a holiday without compensatory rest.
